In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
~ 1 Thessalonians 5:18 ~

What does the word “thankful” actually mean?

1. feeling gratitude: feeling or expressing gratitude. We must be thankful for small mercies

2. glad about something: glad or relieved about something

We always tend to be thankful when God does things “we” want but when he doesn’t answer a prayer or brings trials to our lives we tend “not” to be thankful for Him. Its like being in the middle of the ocean in a big storm trying to get back to shore. If you don’t follow all the rules to get back safely you might not make it, right? That is the same thing with God. If we don’t seek him in the storm we will never make it back to shore safely. We must learn to lean on the Lord through “ALL” times in our lives good or bad. God sees our situation much better than we do and we can trust that he always has our best interest in mind. We only see a tiny piece of the big puzzle and God has the entire puzzle in his vision.

Has there been a time in your life when you found it difficult to be thankful for God? How did you handle it? It is hard to lay ourselves down and not let our flesh get in the way but when you truly think how much God loved us by sending Jesus to die for “our” sins, that should be enough to try harder in praising Him through the good and the bad.

It says in Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. That is a powerful statement and one that sticks with me. Have you ever heard the term “I am a good person?” What does being a good person mean to you? Most would say they have never killed someone, they never committed adultery. But because you have never done those things does not mean you are a “good” person to God, “for all have sinned”. That means noone is worthy but because God sent Jesus to die for “us” we are saved by His grace. Psalm 21:23 “you who fear the Lord, praise Him”. That means in the good or the bad.

The next time a storm comes your way seek God and let him guide you to shore. The faster you get through the storm the faster you can get to the other side of what God has for you. Testing is to get you ready for what is to come.

Share a storm you have encounter in your life and you sought God to get you through.

Have a blessed day!
