I know I am not the only parent out there that feels like a referee everyday with their children. Makes you just want to wear the outfit to fit the role, uh?

My growing up was very different then how I chose to bring up my children. One thing we did not have was “House Rules”. My mom did everything and didnt make myself or brothers do anything. I wish she had of, because it made it harder on me when I got older of things I didnt want to do. I mean I did have some rules for our home:

1. Honor your father & mother
2. Talk respectfully
3. Never go to bed angry

Even though these rules have been set they have not been followed like they should. We try as parents but dont always follow through. Now that I have personal relationship with God, there are things that I must do to insure that my children grow up the way the Lord commands us.

After watching the Duggar’s, I will have to say that I am very impressed with how all the kids act. So I have decided to make a change for 2010 to have “Schroeder House Rules”. Their rules are very easy to follow and more detailed. I am excited to see how the Lord will work in their growth of all ares.

1. Always use soft words, even when you don’t feel well.

2. Always display kind actions, even if you have been mistreated.

3. Show joyful attitudes even when no one is looking.

4. Have sincere motives with no thought of self-gain.

5. Think pure thoughts.

6. Always give a good report of others. Never tale-bear unless physical harm will come to someone. Use Matthew 18 as your standard.

7. Never raise a hand to hit.
8. Never raise a foot to kick.
9. Never raise an object to throw.
10. Never raise a voice to yell.
11. Never raise an eye to scowl.
12. Use one toy/activity at a time.

13. Never let the sun go down on your wrath. (Don’t go to be angry or guilty.)

14. Amendment J.O.Y.: Put Jesus first, Others second, Yourself last. Make serving your family a priority.

Even though no set of rules can cure our sinful heart, they can serve as a guideline in teaching our children the way of righteousness. Seeking the Lord for grace and wisdom in helping me raise my children is done on a daily basis.

If your house is anything like mind trying to get your kids to do their chores is like pulling teeth! You have to threaten, yell, ground them, start taking things away but nothing seems to work. Lets just say the Duggar’s have a “Chore System” that I will implementing this week. I will have to say that I am very excited to put this in to play.

What kind of rules do you have in your home? List your
