Playing the Game for God

As our 9U baseball teams steps on the field they are ready to take on the world. They have practiced to get ready for this day. They are fired up, they are ready to put into action what they have learned.

Their hearts are racing to make every play and to hit every ball. They are cheering each other when something doesnt go right and lifting each other up to get ready for the next play. They wait for the coaches approval to make it better the next time and soak up everything they say.

Its then as a parent you stop and think “Who are children playing for”? Are we showing them that playing for God is what He gives us gifts for?  Are we showing them how to further the kingdom with our walk with Him every game?

Before our games we dig into Gods word with a Devotion with the boys. We pray before every game. We give God all the glory and we pray for the other team. We in steal good sportsmanship and we dont dog the other team. We practice

Colossians 3:17 “”And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

They cling to his every word as he teaches them how to play for God. How to make every play for Him. How to take all that they have learned and help others come to the kingdom.  That is our “true” purpose, to walk God’s walk and further His kingdom.

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things
will be added to you”

Playing the game for God and not our own gratification is the only way to know that whatever situation we are in God has placed us there for His own kingdom purpose. God brings all situtations into our life, it is our choice if we play the game for Him.

Do you look at every situation you are in and play the game for God or are you playing the game for yourself?
