Compromising Our Faith

I sit behind this screen with a heavy heart. I have been reading post after post of people compromising their faith to celebrate the worldly holidays (Halloween, Christmas & Easter) in with the true meanings.

So it got me thinking, why do we risk compromising our faith to get what we want?

Isn’t this what the enemy does, intertwine a lie in with the truth to make it sound wonderful? Isn’t that what the snake did to Eve when he told her that she would be like God after she eats from the fruit and that she surely would not die.

What happened when she compromised her faith? SIN entered in the world.

I mean really what is the BIG DEAL that we:

  • What is the big deal that we dress up for Halloween and get candy?
  • What is the big deal that we attend a Fall Festival (just another word to compromise getting our way) at our church, everyone else is doing it?
  • What is the big deal that we celebrate Santa in our home, receive gifts and decorate but we teach that Jesus was born and the whole story?
  • What is the big deal that we give our kids easter baskets filled with candy and decorate eggs and hunt them?

Why my heart is heavy because I see “what is the big deal” as a compromise to our faith. Teaching this to our children is very dangerous and setting up our children to compromise in bigger ways in their lives such as marriage, sex, drugs, friendship and even God Himself just to get their way.

All compromising is is us doing what “we” want to do and getting our way. As we know that when we give our lives to Christ, our lives are not our own anymore. We were paid with a price. How can we SO easily compromise our faith just to “get our way”?

Some have even went as far as to say that there is a “gray area” in our Christian walk. I highly disagree with that. The gray area is compromise. We dig and prowl just to find ways to do something we want to do. Why?

Isn’t Gods way enough?

I share all of this with you because 1 John 2:15-17 says “Do not love the world not the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lust; but the one who does the will of God lives forever”

Compromise is the lust of the flesh, eyes & pride. It stirs things up inside that only God can control. It feeds us into thinking that everything is ok if we are still teaching Gods way. It tricks us into thinking that if we dont pertake then someone might make fun or question why we are not celebrating like them.

Compromise brings us to an uncomfortable place however with God we dont have to be uncomfortable. He is guiding our steps and we are not suppose to look like the world. We are suppose to stick out like soar thumbs.

I encourage you sisters to take a STAND in your homes to NOT compromise our faiths nor teach this to our children. Everyone’s walk is different because God has a plan for each one of us and every part of our journey gets us that much closer to Him. I hope that you will walk away from this post with more questions and on fire to seek God for all the answers and not care what the world thinks.

Here is a few questions to meditate on:

  • Does my walk look like everyone else’s or do I stand out?
  • Do I seek God for all the answers and not the world?
  • Am I scared to take a stand because of what others might think?
  • Am I compromising any part of my walk with God?

Sisters I pray that each one of you that read this post that the Lord will cover you with great strength to take a stand on any part of your life that you have compromised in. That He will help you rise above the world with great courage not afraid to take a stand for Him. That your walk will not look like the worlds but stand out. That His will in your life will be clearer then ever. That you will  be able to have deserment to know when a compromise is coming and seek His face to overcome it. That you will carry great courage to those that disagree with your decisions. May the Lord cover you with peace that only He can give as you seek Him in  your journey. In the precious name above all names, Jesus Christ. Amen
