Day 2 – Fall Blessings Craft Idea

Thanksgiving is a pretty big event in my household and I love to decorate and prepare for the holiday. Since becoming a Pastor’s wife, and since no one else in the church has quite the desire to decorate the church I have done several things to celebrate the special day to bring God praise.
At home I have decorated with a tree branch and reusable (laminated) leaves with different things that our family is thankful for. Now that my kids are growing up they will add their own thankfulness leaves to our “family tree.”

I wanted to do something special for our church to focus on being thankful for the blessings that God allows to “fall” on us daily.
Our church has several large bulletin boards and I took some pretty fall branches from the trees in our yard and the leaves seemed to be pretty attached so I decided to keep them and I’m glad I did because it looks beautiful!
Using scrapbooking paper and hemp cord, I made a banner with the words “Fall Blessings” and above that “In Everything Give Thanks” 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
Now here is how it works. I cut simple leaf shapes out of orange paper and people can come and write on the leaves the things that they are thankful for.
I put a bowl full of the paper leaves and pens and a box of mini glue dots so they can attach their leaves on the bulletin board. Then I put a little sign next to the bowl explaining this that says:
What blessings has God had “fall” on you?
Let’s bring Him glory for those blessings!
Write your blessings on a leaf or several leaves
and using the glue dots,
attach it to the bulletin board
to let everyone know what you are
thankful for this Thanksgiving season!
If you would like to do something like this for your church, talk to your pastor’s wife and I’m sure she can help point you in the right direction!  You can also use this idea for a children’s Sunday School class or children’s church – it’s for everyone to get involved in giving God the glory for the blessings in our lives both large and small!
Today’s Challenge:

Put together a Family Tradition in giving thanks. Take the ideas that  Ann provided today or come up with that fits your family. Getting your family involved with thanksgiving teaches them to give thanks for the smallest thing.

Today’s Challenger:

Ann is a stay-at-home mom and married to her pastor! She blogs at www.StringerMama.com about how through ups and downs God is growing and molding her to become what HE wants her to be as a wife and mother of three. God has given Ann a passion for encouraging and counseling women and it’s hard to miss! But don’t be surprised if her obsession for organization and creative ways of saving money pop out here and there too!
