HMT3DBook300x388It was March of 2013, the first time I met Rachael Carman, what an honor! I had already been homeschooling for a little over a year. I attended a conference that she puts on called Real Refreshment Retreats. I had no idea what I was in store for. Meeting Rachael and speaking with her, I walked away feeling like she had known me all my life and so refreshed. She is the real deal when it comes to raising kids and encouraging moms. She is so down to earth and is treading in the trenches with us. My most favorite part about Rachael is she is genuine and not afraid to tell you about her ups & downs of being a mom & home educator.

Rachael is not only an author but an amazing speaker, you will want to make sure you get to hear her at an upcoming Convention. Take a peak at her schedule here.

In her new book “How Many Times Do I Have To Tell You” she gives us a peak into her life as a mom over 23 years and shares with us honest moments that God used to teach her what He was trying to say to her. The pages are easy reading, and she points you back to Christ. She starts you off with a DARE.

List the top ten things you hear yourself say most often to your kids. Then ask your kids to list the top ten things they hear you say most frequently.

What were some things that ended up on your list? See if you can relate to some of these phrases: “Go outside!”, “Now is not the time!”, “Because I am the parent and you are the child!”, “I said so!”, “NO!”, “What are you suppose to be doing!”, “It doesn’t matter what everyone else is doing!”, “Look at me when I am talking to you!”, “Stop being mean to your brother!”, “Hurry we are going to be late!”, “How many times do I have to tell you to follow the directions!”. Wow can you pause for a moment and hear Christ speaking to YOU when you read these?

Through every page you hear Rachael share her family stories and how these phrases were being used on her children. She then shares her reflections on how Christ was using these phrases to speak to her. Coming to the end of each chapter you will notice she has you rest in your own family stores and how these moments point to Christ, called “A moment of Introspection!”  This was one of my favorite parts of the books because it took me back to wonderful places in my life and truly showed me that Christ was there even when I didn’t know it.

If you are looking for a “must have” book for 2015 to challenge you as a parent and draw you closer to Christ in the midst, this is the book to add. You will truly be blessed by this book and will want to share it with other moms.
